Aeron is proud to announce that we have been selected by Özata Shipyard to supply the complete HVAC system for Torghatten Nord’s upcoming electric ferries.

Central to our delivery is the highly energy-efficient AERON Energy Recovery System (AERS), which is a crucial element in this prestigious project at Özata Shipyard.

The ferries will operate on the Festvåg–Misten route, connecting the road between Bodø and Kjerringøy in northern Norway, areas known for their stunning natural beauty and critical local transportation needs. Each vessel will have the capacity to carry 60 vehicles, 195 passengers, and 7 crew members. These zero-emission ferries are designed to set a new benchmark in sustainable and efficient ferry operations.

The AERON AERS system is central to enhancing the vessels’ energy efficiency. It is engineered to optimize energy consumption by recovering “free” energy from onboard sources such as air, water, and equipment before relying on additional power. This state-of-the-art system employs water-to-water heat pumps, capable of both heating and cooling, tailored to the ship’s specific needs.

For heating, the system captures excess energy from onboard operations and stores it in water tanks for future use. When additional energy is needed, the heat pump activates, prioritizing renewable sources like sea or ambient air before drawing on auxiliary systems.

For cooling, the AERS leverages natural energy from seawater or ambient air to maintain comfortable temperatures throughout the vessel. If required, the heat pump provides supplemental cooling for areas such as accommodations and technical rooms.

Aeron offers a streamlined approach to service and delivery, serving as the sole point of contact for all HVAC equipment. This ensures efficient maintenance and support for our clients.

With all components produced in-house, Aeron ensures seamless integration and dependable performance, whether for new constructions or retrofits, enabling operators to significantly reduce emissions and operational expenses.

Aeron is excited to begin our relationship with Özata Shipyard and to contribute to this groundbreaking project for Torghatten Nord.
